Here are some cartoons – my take on some developments in the past week.
Despite all experts pointing out that lockdown is no more a solution to control the pandemic, almost all the state governments are resorting to it being the easiest way out. They don’t care if it’s hurting the people too hard. The common man, rich and poor (save the super rich), have all expended their savings to survive the past five months ‘staying home’ as advised, without work and income. They have survived by ‘beg’ and ‘borrow’: only the ‘steal’ part is left. Hope and pray our insensitive politicians will not push them to that phase inviting anarchy. They should know, if pushed beyond a certain threshold – even the worm turns.
We are seeing instances of people revolting against continuous extensions of lockdown without caring for how they survive long periods without income. The govt. should see the writing on the wall and take decisions based on ground realities rather than expediency.
Floods, landslides, continue. People survive, despite the deaths and devastation, till the next year’s floods and landslides, deaths and devastation. Politicians will continue to sit smug on their chairs knowing well, not just floods and landslides, not even earth quakes can dislodge them from their chairs. Their confidence is based on 1) people’s short memory, 2) their tendency to fall for rhetoric.
Facebook has lost face! (not business-they will never). But before it could be questioned, the chairman of the parliamentary committee to do it, Dr. Shashi Tharoor will most probably be ousted, a Facebook-friendly ‘face’ replacing him, so the Ruling Party-Zuckerberg ‘give and take’ nexus continues. No wonder BJP won handsomely last year and Facebook made a record 67% profit!
Not only BJP, tomorrow, Congress or any other political party coming to power may do the same because they are all made of the same ilk, as they all show the same common characteristic once in power - make as much money as possible during the five years term!
Wish and pray to the God Almighty to give an early respite to the people suffering everywhichway from not only the virus attack, but also the attack from our selfish and incompetent politicians through their insensitive decisions affecting our daily lives!
Remember, in spite of the 5-month lockdown, we are reaching no 1 position in the world and the politicians have stopped talking about it already. So, the ball is now in our court: Taking precautions – the only way to survive. Jai Hind.
