RANDOM CARTOONS - LOCKDOWN STORIES NO. 6

ree

This time it’s lighter stuff – hardly anything political. General disappointment at further lockdown extension in Maharashtra especially Mumbai, has dampened everyone’s spirits

( whatever is left in it, if at all! ) and Net being down for almost past two days along with a

6 - hour power-cut yesterday has not helped things too. But the light of eternal Hope glows and we must continue with our baby steps towards the sunrise of normalcy.

I am glad that the Govt. has at last accepted the hard reality of the situation and has decided to listen to wiser counsels rather than set itself impossible targets and continue the people’s agony with no immediate remedy in sight. The decision to relax the lockdown in phases conditionally and let life restart on the realization, locking in 130 crores inside their homes (many don’t have one) for indefinite periods is not the ideal way to fight this virus which is not going to go away soon. So it’s better to follow the practical principle of learning to live with Corona virus like we do with many other diseases of the major and minor kinds. But in this case the matter for concern is that unlike in others, there is yet no medicine to cure it. So the only option available to us all is, prevent it - at all costs. And the key is in the hands of each one of us. The Govt. has relaxed its controls – now we need to control our lives ourselves. The hard reality of today is: The battle is not yet won – and as for the war, the bugle has only just been sounded.

Let’s all, for our own safety, meticulously follow the Medical Directives issued by the Govt. like social distancing, clean environment, personal hygiene, wearing masks etc etc with the seriousness it deserves. Easing of lockdown has not eased our lives at all. It’s just the start of the struggle for survival. Be aware that the worst is not over – but lies ahead!

The implications of the two month long lockdown on the country’s and the world economy and it's devastating aftermath will only unfold gradually and is going to affect us all in one way or the other for sure – only it's extent may vary. I earnestly hope and pray the Govt. leaves petty politics aside and proceed ahead with doing what’s right for the nation to get back on it's feet at the earliest. Jai Hind!
